    Technical documentation

The technical documentation makes it possible to assess whether the gas appliance meets the requirements of the Gas Appliances Regulation.

The technical documentation must include an appropriate analysis and assessment of the risks. The technical documentation must also specify which requirements apply to the appliance, and it must cover the design, manufacture, and operation of the appliance to the extent that is essential for the assessment. Wherever applicable, the technical documentation must contain at least the following elements:

    1. general description of the appliance
    2. conceptual design and manufacturing drawings and schemes of components, sub-assemblies, circuits, etc.
    3. descriptions and explanations necessary for the understanding of these drawings and schemes and the operation of the appliance
    4. a list of the harmonised standards applied in full or in part, or if the harmonised standards have not been applied, a description of the solutions adopted to ensure compliance with the essential requirements of the Gas Appliances Regulation, including a list of the other relevant technical specifications applied. In the event of partly applied harmonised standards, the technical documentation must specify the parts which have been applied.
    5. results of design calculations made, examinations carried out, etc.
    6. test reports
    7. The appliance’s instructions for installation and use
    8. The fittings EU declaration of conformity that includes the instructions on how the fitting should be incorporated into an appliance or assembled to constitute an appliance

The technical documentation must be kept for 10 years from the date on which the gas appliance was placed on the market. This is the responsibility of the manufacturer or its authorised representative established within the EU. Since the concept of placing on the market refers to a single appliance, the deadline must be calculated from the moment when the “last” single product covered by the technical documentation was placed on the market.
