Quality control during production
After the appliance has been successfully type examined, the manufacturer should agree with the notified body on quality control during production. The manufacturer can choose the one that suits them the best as a model for quality control from the options provided for in the Regulation.
- MODULE C2: CONFORMITY TO TYPE BASED ON INTERNAL PRODUCTION CONTROL PLUS MONITORED PRODUCT CHECKS AT RANDOM INTERVALS
In this module, the manufacturer demonstrates that the manufacturing process and quality control ensure that the appliances are in compliance with the type as described in the EU-type examination certificate, and that they meet the requirements of the Regulation which apply to them. In addition to the process’ quality control, the notified body checks the products at least once a year.
Module C2 is suitable for example for a manufacturer that continuously manufactures only one or a few product models.
- MODULE D: CONDORMITY TO TYPE BASED ON QUALITY ASSURANCE OF THE PRODUCTION PROCESS
In this module, the manufacturer demonstrates that it has an appropriate quality system for the production process to ensure that the appliances are in compliance with the type as described in the EU-type examination certificate, and that they meet the applicable requirements.
In addition, the notified body carries out an audit of the factory at least once a year. The notified body can also make unannounced onsite visits and test products to ensure proper functioning.
Module D is suitable for example for a manufacturer with a wide range of continuous production and several different product types.
- MODULE E: CONFORMITY TO TYPE BASED ON PRODUCT QUALITY ASSURANCE
In this module, the manufacturer demonstrates that it has an appropriate quality system for the final inspection of the product to ensure that the appliances are in compliance with the type as described in the EU-type examination certificate, and that they meet the applicable requirements.
The notified body will also carry out audits at least once every two years to ensure that the manufacturer maintains and follows the quality system.
In addition, the notified body can make unexpected visits to the manufacturer’s premises. During these visits, the notified body can test products or have them tested to verify the proper functioning of the quality system.
Module E is suitable for example for a manufacturer who produces products in an irregular manner and with varying processes. It is also suitable for businesses that do not physically manufacture products but are the product’s manufacturer according to the Regulation.
- MODULE F: CONFORMITY TO TYPE BASED ON PRODUCT VERIFICATION
In this module, the notified body carries out the examinations and tests either for each appliance or by statistical sampling.
The manufacturer must also take all measures necessary so that the manufacturing process and its monitoring ensure the conformity of the manufactured appliance or fittings in accordance with the approved type described in the EU-type examination certificate, and that they are in compliance with the requirements of the Gas Appliances Regulation concerning them.
Module F is suitable for example for a manufacturer who manufactures small product lots using varying processes. It is also suitable for businesses that do not physically manufacture products, but are the product’s manufacturer according to the Regulation.
- MODULE G: CONFORMITY BASED ON UNIT VERIFICATION
In this module, the manufacturer draws up the technical documentation based on which the notified body assesses the conformity of the appliance with the requirements of the Regulation. The notified body will also test the appliance to check that the appliances or fittings are in compliance with the applicable requirements of this Regulation.
If deemed necessary by the notified body, the examinations and tests may be carried out after the appliance has been incorporated, assembled or installed.
In the case of module G, the appliance does not need to be individually type-examined according to module B.
The detailed content of the modules is described in Sections 2–6 of Annex III to the Gas Appliances Regulation.
